The Challenge
Balancing Building Constraints and Brand Identity
Long term clients, Robert Half and Protiviti are specialists in talent and consulting solutions. Relocating their national headquarters to the newly refurbished AIR Solihull building was a key strategic move for the global firm. We were tasked with creating a dynamic and inspiring workspace for their 110 strong team whilst ensuring the new environment aligned with Robert Half's global brand identity.
The key technical challenge in fulfilling the brief was working with the existing chilled beam and undulating perforated ceiling panels. The unique ceiling design interacts closely with the mechanical systems, and so dictated our approach. To minimise disruption to the building's infrastructure and optimise user experience, our space planning had to integrate seamlessly with the existing ceiling grid layout. This reduced the need for modifications to mechanical services and maintained acoustic performance while working in harmony with the ceiling's structure.
What We Did
A Collaborative Approach to a Brand-Centric Design
Close collaboration with the client team and early identification of the complex elements allowed us to make informed decisions from the outset. Our regular project meetings ensured that the mechanical and acoustic complexities of the ceiling were addressed within the design, without any compromise to user experience.
Our design reflects the Robert Half brand identity with a contemporary twist. Soft pastel accents of red, green, and blue complement warm natural timber tones throughout the space. Refined details like bespoke joinery elements, of which there were 16 items throughout the space, and warm linear lighting add a touch of sophistication.
The meet and greet area, designed to create a welcoming atmosphere, features natural textures with a branded moss wall, warm finishes, and glimpses into the office. Staggered timber screens provide a soft barrier between the front and back of house, promoting a sense of connection.
A Space Designed for Collaboration and Community
Throughout the workspace, a variety of meeting rooms cater to different work types and needs. Multi-purpose rooms encourage active and spontaneous gatherings, while training rooms with bleacher seating offer flexibility for formal meetings, workshops, or large events.
The open plan area is strategically planned, with busier teams located near the tea point, while quieter work zones are offered for focused tasks. Dedicated collaboration spaces include touchdown areas for impromptu meetings and quiet working zones for individual focus.
Designed with staff wellbeing in mind, the tea point breakout space provides a distinct atmosphere for break time, social interaction, informal meetings, and company events. Green and natural tones connect the space to the exterior environment.
The new work environment embodies Robert Half’s brand through high-quality finishes and an understated colour palette, in keeping with their global design guide. We are proud to have supported such a significant move for the group. Our strong relationship and collaboration resulted in a seamless process and an exceptional outcome for the Robert Half and Protiviti teams.
